Shaping the Standard: A World Café to Inform Nevada’s Problem Gambling Screening Policy

Reno

Nevada is developing new standards for screening problem gambling within substance use treatment programs. This interactive World Café session invites providers certified through the Behavioral Health Certifications for Excellence in Nevada (BHCEN), formerly known as SAPTA, to directly influence policy being developed by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH).

Rather than a presentation about future requirements, the session is a structured working forum designed to generate actionable recommendations. Through facilitated, rotating small-group discussions, participants will identify practical screening approaches, define realistic implementation expectations, surface resource needs, and clarify what support programs are needed to successfully integrate gambling as a co-occurring condition.

The outcomes of this session will be synthesized and directly incorporated into policy and development efforts.

Learning Objectives:
- Influence Policy Development: Generate concrete recommendations that will directly inform Nevada's forthcoming problem gambling screening standards.
- Define Feasible Implementation Models: Identify screening and response practices that are both clinically effective and operationally sustainable within certified programs.
- Articulate System Support Needs: Establish clear guidance on training, referral infrastructure, and resource requirements necessary for successful statewide implementation.
