StandUpLive Phoenix, Phoenix
Carlos Mencia is a stand-up comedian known for his unfiltered style. He is currently touring on his LIBERATED comedy tour and holds a twice-weekly residency at Jimmy Kimmel's Comedy Club in Las Vegas as part of the "Stars of Comedy" series. His stand-up special "Here I Am" is streaming now, and he reprises his role as Felix Boulevardez in Disney+'s "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder," which is heading into its second season.
Born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras — the 17th of 18 children — Mencia was sent to the United States at three months old and raised in the Maravilla Projects in Los Angeles by his aunt and uncle. An amateur night at the Laugh Factory set him on a comedy path; he became a regular at The Comedy Store and went on to win the International Comedy Grand Champion title from Buscando Estrellas. Early TV credits include "In Living Color," "The Arsenio Hall Show," and "An Evening at the Improv."
His Comedy Central series "Mind of Mencia," created with producer Robert Morton, ran for four seasons. A 2002 HBO special earned him a CableACE Award nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special, and the subsequent Comedy Central special "Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached" became the first Comedy Central Stand-Up Special DVD to reach Platinum sales status. Film credits include "The Heartbreak Kid" (with Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan) and "Our Family Wedding" (with America Ferrera and Forest Whitaker). More information at www.carlosmencia.com.
