Bill Bellamy

StandUpLive Phoenix, Phoenix

Bill Bellamy began doing stand-up while studying at Rutgers University, drawing on his experiences growing up in Newark. He built his skills at small comedy clubs across the country before making his mark at New York venues including The Improv and The Comic Strip, and at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

His HBO DEF COMEDY JAM appearance brought him widespread recognition — including coining the phrase "Booty Call," which became the title of his first Showtime comedy special and one of the network's top-rated specials. He went on to become one of MTV's first VJs, hosting programming blocks such as MTV JAMS and MTV BEACH HOUSE and interviewing artists ranging from Kurt Cobain to Janet Jackson. In 1996 he landed his own series, "The Billy Bellamy Show," and appeared in feature films including LOVE JONES, HOW TO BE A PLAYER, THE BROTHERS, and ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. His second Showtime special, CRAZY SEXY DIRTY, debuted in May 2012, and his third, LADIES NIGHT OUT, followed in February 2013 — the latter accompanied by a nationwide tour featuring comedians Ali Siddiq, J. Reid, and D'Lai.

On television, Bellamy has appeared in recurring and guest roles on Tyler Perry's MEET THE BROWNS, ABC's CASTLE, USA's ROYAL PAINS, USA's WHITE COLLAR, and TNT's MURDER IN THE FIRST. He hosted four seasons of WHO'S GOT JOKES? on TV One and two seasons of NBC's Emmy-nominated LAST COMIC STANDING. Other hosting credits include SHAQ'S ALL STAR COMEDY JAM: I'M STILL LAUGHING (Showtime), the ESPY AWARDS red carpet for ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, and the syndicated game show LET'S ASK AMERICA. In 2016 he co-starred with Shemar Moore and Nadine Velazquez in the romantic comedy THE BOUNCE BACK, and in 2017 joined the Tom Joyner Morning Show as a Wednesday co-host. Bellamy lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
