Bill Bellamy

StandUpLive Phoenix, Phoenix

Bill Bellamy began doing stand-up while studying at Rutgers University, drawing on his experiences growing up in Newark. He built his skills at small comedy clubs across the country before landing spots at New York venues including The Improv and The Comic Strip, as well as The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

His HBO DEF COMEDY JAM appearance brought him wider recognition — including coining the phrase "Booty Call," which became the title of his first Showtime comedy special and one of the network's top-rated specials. That success led to a prominent run at MTV, where he was among the first VJs and hosted programming blocks including MTV JAMS and MTV BEACH HOUSE. He went on to star in films such as LOVE JONES, HOW TO BE A PLAYER, THE BROTHERS, and ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, and landed his own series, "The Billy Bellamy Show," in 1996. His subsequent Showtime specials include CRAZY SEXY DIRTY (May 2012) and LADIES NIGHT OUT (February 2013), the latter accompanied by a nationwide tour featuring comedians Ali Siddiq, J. Reid, and D'Lai.

His television credits include recurring roles on Tyler Perry's MEET THE BROWNS (TBS), guest appearances on CASTLE (ABC), ROYAL PAINS (USA), WHITE COLLAR (USA), and MURDER IN THE FIRST (TNT), four seasons hosting WHO'S GOT JOKES? on TV One, and two seasons of NBC's Emmy-nominated LAST COMIC STANDING. He also co-starred with Shemar Moore and Nadine Velazquez in the 2016 romantic comedy THE BOUNCE BACK, and joined the Tom Joyner Morning Show as a Wednesday co-host in 2017.
