Texas ↔ Global Connections in K12 Education

Robert L. Patton Hall (RLP) 1.302B — University of Texas at Austin, Austin

This full-day professional development session is designed to help K–12 educators draw meaningful connections between Texas and the wider world — exploring how Texas both influences and is influenced by global trends in history, economics, culture, migration, and more. The goal is to make these connections practical, whether teachers are bringing global perspectives into Texas-focused courses or Texas examples into globally focused lessons.

The morning focuses on content and examples that highlight these two-way connections. Through case studies, discussion, and ready-to-use resources, participants will explore topics such as trade, energy, cultural exchange, and migration through a Texas-to-global and global-to-Texas lens. The afternoon is more hands-on: teachers work with peers, share ideas, and get feedback on ways to incorporate global content into their courses — whether building new lessons from scratch or refining existing ones.

Stipend: Participants who register by May 19th are eligible for a $100 stipend to cover mileage and parking. Stipends are paid by mailed check after the workshop. Participants in the U.S. on a visa are not eligible for the stipend but may qualify for gas mileage reimbursement — contact the organizers for details. Registration remains open after May 19th until all spots are filled, but late registrants are not eligible for the stipend.

Parking and location details will be shared closer to the workshop date.
